Anadolu Efes vs Baskonia Preview

Anadolu Efes continue their battle for a playoff spot, with the first of their last four challenges being Baskonia, who have nothing to lose.

Will coach Banchi’s squad extend their winning streak to five, or will Baskonia pull off an upset and secure a rare road victory this season?

Anadolu Efes Form & Team News

Efes have found their best form and winning formula at the perfect moment, now charging relentlessly toward the playoffs.

Last week, they secured their fourth consecutive victory—and in spectacular fashion! In Belgrade, they absolutely demolished Partizan by 32 points, sending a clear message that no one should count them out in the race for a Final Four spot.

The entire team delivered an almost flawless performance, with Darius Thompson leading the way in his best game of the season, scoring 19 points with a perfect 5/5 from beyond the arc.

Elijah Bryant was once again solid with 18 points, while P.J. Dozier played his best game since joining the club, dropping 13 points against his former team.

With a favorable schedule in the last four EuroLeague rounds, it’s hard to see a scenario where Efes miss out on at least a play-in spot.

A minor setback comes in the form of injuries to Vincent Poirier and Rodrigue Beaubois, who are expected to miss the game against Baskonia, but Luca Banchi has a deep roster with enough options to cover their absence.

Baskonia Form & Team News

Baskonia have been a purely home-dominant team in the EuroLeague this season, with their poor performances on the road costing them a better standing and a potential play-in spot.

Their last EuroLeague away win came more than three months ago against Maccabi Tel Aviv, and since then, they have suffered six consecutive road losses. The situation isn’t much better in the ACB League, as they have managed just one win in their last ten away games across all competitions.

One of Baskonia’s biggest issues has been the decline in Markus Howard’s performances compared to last season when he was the league’s top scorer. While he has shown signs of improvement in recent weeks, it’s too little, too late—at least as far as their EuroLeague ambitions are concerned.

For the upcoming game, coach Laso will be without the injured Kamar Baldwin, who is expected to miss a few more weeks due to a finger injury.

Head to Head

In their first head-to-head clash of the season, Anadolu Efes claimed a 89-84 victory at Fernando Buesa Arena. The standout performer of the game was Elijah Bryant, who delivered an all-around performance with 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Verdict

Clashes between these teams traditionally bring plenty of points, and there’s no reason to expect anything different this time.

Anadolu Efes have hit their stride and once again resemble the offensive powerhouse that won back-to-back titles. However, the visitors will have their say as well—when Markus Howard is at his best, Baskonia can be a threat to any team in the EuroLeague.
