Fenerbahce vs Paris Preview

In Round 31 of the EuroLeague, Fenerbahce will host Paris at the Ulker Sports Arena.

Can Fenerbahce extend their winning streak to seven straight home victories, or will the newcomers to the competition pull off an upset and move closer to a playoff spot?

Fenerbahce Form & Team News

Fenerbahce were defeated 91-82 on the road against Monaco in the previous EuroLeague round, but it’s not a loss that should shake them too much.

With a 20-10 record, they still hold the 10th spot on the standings, and their playoff home-court advantage is nearly secured.

The worst-case scenario for them would be slipping to third or fourth place, but even that wouldn't be a disaster, as Olympiacos, currently at the top, won't have an easy opponent in the quarterfinals.

Overall, Fenerbahce played a solid game against Monaco, but with only 9 points from Nigel Hayes-Davis, they couldn’t do much against the shooting-heavy home team.

They got back on track on Sunday, defeating their biggest rivals, Anadolu Efes, 82-81 in the domestic league, even without Hayes and starting center Chris Boucher. Both were given rest, so coach Jasikevicius will have a full squad available for this matchup.

Paris Form & Team News

Paris pulled off a huge victory over Milan in the previous round, winning 92-79 and breaking their three-game losing streak.

What highlights the competitiveness of this EuroLeague season is that, despite the win, Paris dropped to 7th place in the standings, as their direct rivals, against whom they have a worse head-to-head record, all secured victories.

Paris took full advantage of Nikola Mirotic being less than 100% due to a previous injury, and with the excellent performance of T.J. Shorts, the win was never in doubt.

The diminutive point guard flirted with a triple-double, scoring 24 points, dishing out 11 assists, and grabbing 6 rebounds in under 30 minutes of play. He was supported by Maodo Lo and Sebastian Herrera, both with 13 points, and Tyson Ward, who added 11.

Paris face a grueling schedule in their next three games, with matchups against former European champions Fenerbahce, Panathinaikos, and Real Madrid. Along with a presumed victory against Alba in the final round, they will need at least one more win in these tough encounters to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Head to Head

The first matchup between Fenerbahce and Paris this season took place just three weeks ago, after initially being postponed due to a virus that affected most of Paris’ players. Fenerbahce came from behind in the second half to secure a 87-83 victory.

Verdict

Both teams are among the top in the EuroLeague for three-point attempts. While the visitors can't boast a great shooting percentage, Fenerbahce, with a 38% success rate, are among the best teams in the league in this category.

This will be the perfect opportunity for Fenerbahce to fine-tune their long-range shooting in a game where they don't face the pressure of the result, against a rival that plays a similar style.
