Milano vs Barcelona Preview

With the season winding down, both Milano and Barcelona are among the teams fighting tooth and nail for a playoff spot.

Milano are eager to recover from their disappointing outing in Madrid, while Barcelona, still reeling from a shocking loss to Bayern, will look to bounce back and defend their place.

Milano Form & Team News

After a 96-89 loss to Real Madrid, Milano find themselves in a tough spot once again, but it's far from over. In their final three games, they will likely need to win all three to secure a playoff spot, with Barcelona being their first direct rival.

Against a confident Real Madrid, Milano never really had a chance for an upset. The Royal Club dictated the tempo from the start, maintaining a steady lead throughout, which at one point stretched to 18 points.

Milano could only manage to reduce the deficit to a more respectable margin by the end, with coach Messina wisely pulling his key players to preserve their energy for the crucial match ahead.

In a game where Nikola Mirotic reached his 4000th career point, he wasn't at his best, scoring 14 points but struggling with his shooting (3/12). Leday added 15, while Shields and Causer both contributed 13 points each.

A positive note for Milano is the return of Dimitrijevic and Gillespie from injury, both of whom could play larger roles in the upcoming clash against Barcelona.

Barcelona Form & Team News

After a nightmare game, Barcelona not only suffered a loss to direct playoff rival Bayern but also lost Chimezie Metu to a serious Achilles tendon injury that will keep him out for several months.

Following a poor start and an 11-point deficit at one point in the first half, Barcelona managed to regroup and came close to securing the win.

However, with a 99-91 lead and just three minutes remaining, the Barcelona players fell into a series of mistakes that allowed Bayern to completely turn the game around.

The match ended with a botched final possession and a heroic attempt by Kevin Panter, which unfortunately stayed on the rim.

The situation is tough for Blaugrana, and it remains to be seen how they will respond to this painful loss, as well as how they will cope with the absence of several key players.

Head to Head

Milano have won the last four matchups against Barcelona. The game played in mid-December was one of Milano's best performances this season. Zach Leday shone brightly, scoring 33 points in a dominant display.

Verdict

Milano have proven they know how to play against Barcelona. Their advantage in this matchup will be a much deeper roster and the freshness of key players who saw less action in the previous game.

Barcelona will need to find their chance for a top 10 finish in their final two games.
