Monaco vs Zalgiris Preview

Monaco's battle-weary squad welcomes Zalgiris, a team they've consistently struggled against in their head-to-head encounters.

Will the Princes protect their castle, or will the Greens pull off an upset that could shake up the standings even more?

Monaco Form & Team News

Monaco finally picked up a win against a top-tier team last week, something we hadn’t seen since Spanoulis took over. They beat Fenerbahce 91-82 after a tough 40 minutes, holding off rivals chasing the 4th spot.

This squad still has a one-game lead over Barcelona, Crvena Zvezda, Paris, and Bayern, who are all breathing down their necks. Securing 4th place is key, as it ensures home-court advantage in the EuroLeague quarterfinals, which can be a game-changer for reaching the Final Four.

The win came thanks to great shooting and solid team play, with 18 assists and forcing 17 turnovers from Fenerbahce. Even though Monaco was outrebounded by 8, it didn’t matter in the end.

Mike James, who’d been quiet lately, had one of his best games this season, finishing with 29 points, 6 assists, and shooting 10/19.

Zalgiris Form & Team News

Last week, Zalgiris couldn't pull off an upset on the road against Barcelona, and now their chances of making it into the top 10 are slim to none.

Throughout the season, the lack of offensive firepower has been evident, and with Lonnie Walker’s departure to the NBA, the team has been further depleted.

Zalgiris are a tough, gritty squad that will make life hard for any opponent, but without talented offensive players, it’s incredibly difficult to play and win consistently. Even against Barcelona, where they had a rather modest performance hitting 8 of 24 three-pointers, it just wasn’t enough, with too few players stepping up for coach Trinchieri’s side.

With this loss, Zalgiris remain in 13th place with a 14-16 record. Looking ahead, they have away games against Asvel and Anadolu Efes and a home game against Partizan.

Head to Head

Meetings between these two teams are usually packed with excitement and uncertainty. They’re typically games decided by a single possession. That’s exactly how their latest match went, with Zalgiris narrowly winning 63-62.

Verdict

The only way Zalgiris can match their opponent in this game is by slowing down the tempo and imposing their style, with plenty of physicality and solid defense.

They simply don’t have the offensive talent to compete with the home team, so a lot will depend on the refereeing standards.

The last four matchups between these clubs have ended well below this line.
