Partizan vs Alba Berlin Preview

In Round 31 of the Euroleague, Partizan will host Alba Berlin at the Belgrade Arena.

The black-and-whites are eager to redeem themselves in front of their fans after a humiliating performance against Anadolu Efes last week.

Standing in their way is the German team, who is looking to improve after a generally disappointing season.

Partizan Form & Team News

With three consecutive losses against direct Euroleague competitors, Partizan have significantly reduced their chances of making the top 10.

What hurts their fans even more than the defeats is the way their teams performed in those matches. This especially applies to the most recent game, where Partizan were humiliated at home by Anadolu Efes, 97-65.

It was widely regarded as the weakest performance of Partizan during the era of Željko Obradović.

None of Partizan's key players delivered a passable performance in those games. To highlight just how off rhythm they were, their best player, Charles Jones, despite a poor shooting night (3/10), even missed 4 of 5 free throws.

Partizan can no longer afford mistakes, but it seems they missed their chance after a fantastic run, having won four consecutive away games. Still, as always, teams led by Željko Obradović should never be written off.

Alba Berlin Form & Team News

Alba's Euroleague season has already been labeled a failure, but that won't stop the German team from giving their all in the final four games, hoping to add to their 5 wins.

Since Pedro Calles took over as coach, there's been a noticeable improvement. In his debut, Alba managed a 97-90 win over Baskonia, and they didn't embarrass themselves against reigning champions Panathinaikos. In fact, they were in the game until the end, but just didn't have enough to pull off an upset.

It remains to be seen if this is just a temporary lift or if Alba, with their new coach, can stay competitive in the final Euroleague games and possibly grab a few more wins.

David McCormack and Justin Bean missed the last few games due to injury, and their status for the Partizan match will be clearer on game day.

Head to Head

Partizan have won the last four encounters against Alba, including a narrow 91-90 victory in their first meeting of this season. Charles Jones shone in that game, scoring 24 points and hitting the decisive basket with just 2 seconds left on the clock.

Verdict

Partizan are clear favorites in this match and are likely to secure the crucial win, but I wouldn't bet on it being an easy one. Alba have nothing to lose, and their last two games showed how a team playing without pressure can perform.

After Baskonia and Panathinaikos, Partizan could easily find themselves in a similar situation, especially with their confidence currently at its lowest point.
