Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians Preview & Tips

Gujarat Titans were beaten by 11-runs in a hugely entertaining match against Punjab Kings as their season got off to a losing start.

Mumbai Indians were beaten by Chennai Super Kings in their opening match of the campaign, with the side slipping to a four-wicket loss.

The sides have played five times, with GT winning three matches and MI winning twice.

Gujarat Titans were always up against it when chasing a score above 200, with Punjab Kings ultimately posting an unbeatable 243/5 in their 20 overs.

While GT's batsmen made a good fist of chasing their target, with Sai Sudharsan (74), Jos Buttler (54) and Sherfane Rutherford (46) all scoring well, they were let down by their bowling unit, with even the miserly Rashid Khan feeling the pain as he returned figures of 1/48.

While the track was clearly very batting-friendly, GT could not accelerate at the right time, with the side ultimately losing by 11 runs. The key wicket in the chase came as Buttler chopped onto his own stumps with a handful of overs to come. Perhaps if he had stayed until he close of the innings, the result might have been different.

Following a slightly tentative performance in game one for his new side, I am backing Buttler to once again score the runs as he leads his side to their first victory of the season.

Mumbai Indians Form

Mumbai Indians could not ever really get away from Chennai Super Kings in their opening match of the season as their opponents bettered them with both bat and ball.

With bat in hand, a score of 155/9 in 20 overs did not look hugely challenging. While CSK did labour to their target with four wickets and five balls to spare, they did not really look like they would fail to achieve their goal, especially with Rachin Ravindra anchoring the innings with 65 not out.

I expect more from Rohit Sharma in this one after he was bowled for a four-ball duck last time out, but I do not expect his exploits at the top of the order to be enough. MI have lost their last two meetings with GT, while they have been beaten in seven of their last eight. I expect MI to slip to another disappointing defeat in their second appearance of the season.
