Manchester City vs Brighton Preview & Tips

Manchester City need to bounce back at the first time of asking, with their recent 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest hitting their top-four hopes hard.

Brighton arrive for this one on the back of four consecutive wins in the league, with the visitors hot on the heels of their hosts.

  • City have won three of their last four home games in the league (L1)
  • Brighton have lost two of their last three against City
  • Erling Haaland scored in the reverse of this fixture back in November

Head To Head

Manchester City have won seven of their last 10 against Brighton, with the latter winning twice and one game ending as a draw.

Manchester City Form

Despite having to endure a torrid season by their own lofty standards, Manchester City are still in with a chance of securing a top-four spot and Champions League football for next season.

Their recent 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest has seen their clash with Brighton given ever more importance. City sit a point above Brighton, while they are four short of Forest. A loss here could see the reigning champions slip seven points behind Forest, while the visitors would move above them with a win.

Fortunately for City, they have been fairly good at home this year. Eight wins have come alongside two draws and three defeats, and they will be confident they can add to their seven wins in their last 10 against their opponents.

Erling Haaland scored for City when the pair met back in November, and with time running out for the big striker to catch Mohamed Salah at the top of the scoring charts, I am backing him to hit the back of the net at the weekend.

Brighton Form

Brighton have impressed of late, with four consecutive wins seeing the side move up to seventh in the league with 46 points.

A win in this one would not only be a massive statement, but it would also see them move above City, while it could see them move into the top-four if other results go their way. With only 10 games of the season to go, Brighton have put themselves in an excellent position to break into the top-four.

However, Brighton's record against City is not great, with the side losing all eight of their trips to face their opponents. While the travelling side are in good form, only one of their last four wins have come on the road, and I back them to see their winning run brought to an end.

Verdict

I am backing Haaland to fire City to a much-needed win as they gear up for the final sprint in the league with a win over Brighton.
