While much of the focus across the Premier League campaign will be around whether Manchester City, Arsenal or Liverpool will win the Premier League title, equally as entertaining is the relegation battle.

With three total relegation spots to be filled, Southampton are currently the favourites to go down at 1.50, but should you back them to slip back into the Championship at the first time of asking?

Newly-promoted trio Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton are all favourites to go straight back down to the Championship after a season to forget. According to the bookmakers, they will have a real job on their hands if they are to avoid the drop.

However, they do not have to look far for company in the betting. Indeed, Everton, Nottingham Forest and Wolves are all available at or below 5.00. This shows that while there are big favourites to go down, bettors are spoiled for choice with viable options when it comes to relegation.

The first three weeks of the Premier League season has seen Everton, Southampton and Wolves take up the bottom-three spots after very poor starts to the new campaign.

The most interesting inclusion on this list is Manchester City (13.00). City face 115 alleged financial breaches with the hearing expected to begin in September and lasting around 10 weeks. City could be subject to huge fines and even a points deduction if found guilty, which is likely why they have been backed into their current price.

If City are deducted points, then it could make for an incredibly interesting relegation battle, especially if the sanction were to stand at around 60 points. Last term, City picked up 91 points, while Luton in 18th notched 26 points. If the exact same situation happened again, City would have secured +31 points, enough to see them survive by five points.

Of course, this is all just speculation right now, with City likely to learn their fate soon.

Perhaps then this relegation battle may only come down to two sides outside of City going down. If City were given an insurmountable points deduction, then it would mean one of the three sides that would have gone down otherwise will be safe.
