Liverpool vs PSG Preview & Tips

Liverpool stunned PSG in the first-leg of their clash as a brilliant defensive display saw them soak up everything their hosts could throw at them.

PSG dominated their match against Liverpool, but they were not incisive enough as they came up against a brick-wall in the form of goalkeeper Alisson.

  • Liverpool have scored in all nine of their Champions League matches this season
  • PSG have scored in five of their last six European games
  • Liverpool have won all four of their Champions League matches at home
  • Two of PSG's four European defeats have come on the road

Head To Head

The pair have met three times, with Liverpool winning twice and PSG securing one win.

Liverpool Form

Liverpool rode their luck in the first-leg against PSG before sucker-punching their opponents with an 87th minute Harvey Elliott goal that means they come into the second-leg with a one-goal lead.

The Reds will expect to see more of the ball at Anfield this week after being dominated in France. Their goal advantage is crucial heading into this match, but they know they cannot completely rely on this. Indeed, on another night, PSG would have scored at least two or three goals, and they will be confident that they can breach Liverpool's defence this week.

With this in mind, scoring at least once will be on the agenda for the Reds. They have all of the tools to hurt their opponents, especially now the travelling side have to score. I back the home side to secure the win in this one, but I do not believe they will have it all their own way.

PSG Form

PSG saw 71% of the ball and took 27 shots in the first-leg, but they could not breach a stubborn Liverpool defence that featured a goalkeeper in stunning form. Indeed, despite all of the attacking talent on display, Alisson secured the player of the match award following his exploits.

Now, PSG's task is clear as they have to beat Liverpool in the second-leg to have any chance of staying in the competition. A win by a single goal in 90 minutes will take this one into extra-time, while a win by two or more would complete a remarkable turnaround with the French side heading through.

While I do predict that PSG will score for the sixth time in their last seven in Europe, I do not back them to beat the Reds. Liverpool will look to keep the ball more on their own patch, causing some of the chances for the travelling side to dry up, with the French champions once again failing in Europe.

Verdict

I am backing the Reds to secure a huge victory over PSG as they move into the next round of the competition. I do not believe Alisson will be able to keep a clean sheet this time as PSG get back to scoring goals.
