PSG vs Girona Tips - PSG to make winning start to Champions League bid

Girona were beaten 4-1 by Barcelona in their last match as they entered an intriguing week on the back of a defeat. 

This will be the first meeting between the pair in a competitive match. 

PSG have been in sparkling form at the start of the new season, with four games culminating in four wins and 12 points collected. 

While they are only two points clear of Marseille and Monaco in second and third, PSG's form feels ominous for a league that has struggled to contain them over the years. With their excellent start to the season allowing them to move to the top of Ligue 1, PSG can now turn their attention to the competition they really want to win. 

Too often PSG have underperformed in the Champions League, but they will hope the new structure for the competition will bring renewed fortunes. If PSG have serious aspirations of winning the competition, they have to find a way to win their home games consistently. 

Girona were exceptionally good last season, with the 25 wins and 81 points they picked up enough to see them secure a place in the Champions League this term. 

While Girona have secured two wins this season, they have already lost twice and drawn one other game. Their start to the new year has not been bad by any means, but they do arrive for their first Champions League clash on the back of a 4-1 loss to Barcelona. 

While Barca are in flying form, Girona found it very tough to contain their opponents, and I believe they will have a similar issue when they travel to face PSG as they slip to a defeat in their opening match.
