PSV host Arsenal in the first-leg of their Champions League clash with both looking to take an advantage to the Emirate Stadium in London next week.

Neither side is in the best form right now, with both hoping to stay solid at the back and breach the opposition's defence. Ahead of the match, we have brought together our best bets in what should be an intriguing Champions League clash.

Total Goals

The last time the pair met, the score was 1-1 in a tight encounter. This saw PSV bounce back from a 4-0 humbling in London in the reverse. We expect to see a similar pattern emerge in this one as PSV keep things tight at home.

Arsenal will be favourites to secure the win in the second-leg when they return home, but this will not likely see the Gunners win big.

Indeed, Mikel Arteta's side have failed to score in three of their last four, while they have seen less than 2.5 goals scored across this run.

Meetings between the two sides have also been very tight, with less than 2.5 goals the outcome in eight of their last nine matchups. With Arsenal struggling for goals and the history of the fixtures in mind, this one looks like it will be very tight.

The last meeting between the pair ended in a 1-1 draw in December 2023. This followed a 4-0 win for Arsenal in September the same year. PSV went away from their loss at the Emirates and clearly learnt a lot of tough lessons. While the after-match report will have been a tough one to read, the side built on what they had seen and came back far stronger.

In their last nine meetings, four matches have ended as draws, with the two sides generally tough to split. Indeed, only three matches have seen the sides split by more than a single goal, with the joint-most common result a draw.

Arsenal have found scoring tough of late, and I back them to see the value of a draw, especially on the road in Europe.

This one may be surprising considering Arsenal's woes in front of goal right now, but European knockout matches can be a strange place to play football.

The Gunners have scored in their last two against PSV, while they have scored in their last four matches in Europe. Meanwhile, PSV have managed to net in their last four in Europe, and they will be roared on by their own fans. A goal for the away side will see them grow in confidence, but I am not convinced by their defence, with the Gunners conceding in each of their last three away games in the Champions League.

I predict a low-scoring affair in which the two sides head into the second-leg with the scores level. Neither are in the best form right now, but with a Champions League quarter-final berth at stake, I expect both to fight tooth and nail for every inch on the pitch.
