Australia vs China Tips

Australia have failed to win any of their opening two World Cup qualifying matches, with a 0-0 draw against Indonesia in their last game a disappointing result.

China arrive for this one on the back of a 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia as they lost once again.

Head To Head

Australia have won three of their last seven against China, with the latter winning twice and the other two ending as draws.

Australia Form

Australia have been hugely disappointing at the start of the current round of World Cup qualifying after taking a single point from a possible six.

Their 1-0 loss to Bahrain was a stunning defeat in which the massive underdogs scored in the 89th minute via a Harry Souttar own goal. While the Socceroos did dominate the game, they struggled to create clear cut chances as they could only hit the target four times.

They were similarly toothless in game two as they were held to a goalless draw by Indonesia. While it was important to ensure one defeat did not become two, Australia once again struggled to break the opposition down. While I do predict that Australia will win this one, I am not backing a comfortable game as they struggle in front of goal once again.

China Form

China sit at the bottom of Group C after a torrid start to the current round of World Cup qualifying.

While they are only a point short of their hosts in fifth, they have already conceded nine goals, thanks largely to their 7-0 humiliation at the hands of Japan. They were better defensively against Saudi Arabia in game two, but they still slipped to a 2-1 loss.

Their second defeat means they are already six points short of Japan at the summit, and they are in desperate need of a result to end their run of three defeats on the bounce. While I once again back them to focus on their defensive output and keep things tight, I am not backing them to get anything from this match.

Verdict

I am backing a low-scoring match in which the Socceroos get their first win in qualifying, whilst dealing another major blow to China's World Cup hopes.
