Japan vs Bahrain Preview & Tips

Japan powered to a 3-1 win over China in their last match as they notched a second-successive victory in World Cup qualifying Group C.

Bahrain held Australia in a 2-2 draw in their last game as they secured a point against their much-fancied opponents.

  • Japan have won to nil in four of their five victories at this stage of qualifying
  • Bahrain have failed to score in two of their last three qualifying games

Head To Head

Japan have won eight of their last 10 against Bahrain, with the latter winning the other two meetings.

Japan Form

Japan have been incredibly impressive in World Cup qualifying, and they sit at the top of Group C with 16 points from six matches. Their run of five wins and a single draw means they are nine points clear of Australia in second.

The Japanese have found a way to marry scoring goals and keeping them out of their own net in this campaign, with the nation scoring 22 times and conceding just twice.

Japan's last match against Bahrain ended in a stunning 5-0 win, while three of their last four wins over their opponents have been to nil in a very impressive run.

While Bahrain will look to channel the sort of performance that allowed them to take a point in a 2-2 draw with Australia in their last game, the difference in form between Japan and Australia will likely see the former extract all three points from this one.

Bahrain Form

Bahrain are very much in the hunt for a top-four spot in Group C, but they need to start winning matches if they are to keep their fate in their own hands.

Their 2-2 draw with Australia at home in their last match saw Bahrain challenge the side currently second in the group. However, this followed on from a hugely disappointing 1-0 loss to China at home. China had previously won a single game, losing their other three. Defeat at home against a side in awful form will have hit their confidence hard.

While Bahrain have proved tough to beat, having drawn three of their opening six, they have a poor record against Japan, and I predict this will only get worse this week.

Verdict

I am backing Japan to notch yet another win to nil as they continue to dominate their group.
