South Korea vs Oman Preview & Tips

South Korea are looking to get back to winning ways in World Cup qualifying after being held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by bottom side Palestine in their last outing.

Oman were beaten 1-0 at home by Iraq in their last match as they once again failed to build on a win.

  • South Korea won their last home game against Iraq
  • Oman have lost both of their away games, conceding five goals and failing to score
  • Son Heung-Min has scored in his last two outings for South Korea

Head To Head

The pair have met five times in total, with South Korea winning three games and the other two ending as draws.

South Korea Form

South Korea sit at the top of Group B in qualifying with 14 points, three clear of Iraq in second and five ahead of Jordan in third.

South Korea's qualifying campaign to this point has been impressive, with four of their six games ending in wins, while the other two have been draws. South Korea are one of only three sides across the three groups yet to taste defeat at this stage.

Frustratingly, South Korea were unable to make it five consecutive wins as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Palestine in their last game. The draw did not see them relinquish top-spot, but they missed the chance to move further clear of Jordan and Oman in third and fourth respectively, with both sides dropping points.

Son Heung-Min has been in good form for his nation of late, netting in his last two outings. With the home side looking to extend their unbeaten run in qualifying to seven matches, I do not see anything other than a fourth win in six against Oman for South Korea.

Oman Form

Oman are still in with a chance of finishing in the top-four despite only winning two of their opening six matches at this stage of qualifying.

A 1-0 home win over Palestine back in November helped them to bounce back from a crushing 4-0 away loss to Jordan in the game before. However, they were then beaten 1-0 at home by Iraq as they missed the chance to leapfrog their opponents.

Worrying for Oman is the fact they have lost their two away games, and they are yet to score a single goal on the road. Against an opponent that has been fairly miserly at the back, I predict that Oman will really struggle to create any kind of momentum in front of goal.

Verdict

I am backing Son Heung-Min to score for the third consecutive match for his country as South Korea take complete control of Group B.
