- Iran Form
Iran eased past the United Arab Emirates in their second game to extend their perfect start in qualifying to two matches.
- The pair have drawn their last two meetings
- Uzbekistan have seen less than 2.5 goals scored in two of their last three
- Iran have seen less than 2.5 goals scored in their last three games
Head To Head
In their last 10 meetings, Iran have secured seven wins, Uzbekistan have one win and there have been two draws.
Uzbekistan form
Uzbekistan have been excellent at the start of the third round of their qualifying campaign, winning both of their opening matches.
A 1-0 win over North Korea kicked things off with a tight win before they ran out winners in a five-goal thriller against Kyrgyzstan, securing a 3-2 triumph. This has been enough to send them to the top of Group A, ahead of their next opponents on goal difference.
Victory here would open up a three-point lead over second in the table, but Uzbekistan know they have their work cut out against a side that has won nine of their 13 against them. With this in mind, I am backing Uzbekistan to secure a positive point to further underline their top-four hopes.
Iran Form
Iran have impressed at the start of the third round of qualifying, winning their opening two matches and moving into second in Group A.
Two clean sheets have come in two matches, with both games against Kyrgyzstan and the UAE ending 1-0. Clearly, Iran have been good at getting a lead and keeping it, but it will be interesting to see how they do if they are to go behind or see their lead wiped off.
Iran can move clear at the top of Group A if they are to win this one, but their clash with their hosts this week is far less straightforward than previous matches against them have been. With this in mind, I am backing Iran to continue an impressive run of form in a low-scoring clash that sees the points shared.
Verdict
I am backing the defences to come out on top in this one as the pair score less than 2.5 goals between them as the points are shared.
