Australia arrive for their opening Rugby Championship encounter looking to extend a four-game winning run.

South Africa hammered Portugal 64-21 in their last outing as they bounced back from their stunning 25-24 loss to Ireland.

In their last 10 meetings, South Africa have won four times, Australia have won four times and there have been two draws.

Australia were able to sign off July with three wins on the bounce as they beat Wales twice before downing Georgia in three entertaining matches.

Each game saw the Aussies building on the basics, although there are still areas in which they must improve. The lineout did provide cause for concern against Wales with some wayward throwing. It is vital Australia's throws go to hand this week, with their scrum likely to come under intense pressure from their opponents.

While they will be desperate to defend their four-game winning run, I cannot see them beating South Africa. The Aussies will want to do the simple things well and try to keep infringements to a minimum, but this may not be up to them, especially if the Springboks pile the pressure on in a game that Australia will likely lose.

South Africa were left reeling by Ireland in July as they slipped to a 25-24 loss to their opponents after beating hem 27-20 the match before.

Their defeat was followed by a 64-21 hammering of Portugal as South Africa took their frustrations out on their opponents. Ultimately, this was the perfect way for the Springboks to round off their matches in July, with the free-scoring win following two arm-wrestles with Ireland.

While South Africa have called upon some new faces heading into the competition, they should still be far too strong for the Aussies despite this. I am backing them to get over the line in this one as they look to begin their Rugby Championship campaign with a statement win.
